The Ancient
Sequoia
John Muir has said it best: " The Big Tree is nature's forest
masterpiece, and so far as I know, the greatest of living things.
It belongs to the ancient stock... and has a strange air of the days
about it, a thoroughbred look inherited from long ago--the auld lang
syne of trees."
High along the western slope of California's Sierra Nevada mountains
grows the mightiest tree on the face of the earth. These giants
stand so tall and are so big around that they virtually defy
description. Their botanical name is sequoiadendron giganteum
but they are often called Redwoods, Sequoias or simply "The Big Trees"
The Sequoias are among the largest living things. The redwood
used to make these items was a fence post hewn around the turn of the
century from an ancient Sequoia logged before the trees became revered
and protected in a manner that fits their exalted position as one of
nature's wonders.
We reuse
the fence posts to share with you the age and beauty of these amazing
trees. The supply of this type of redwood is limited. Enjoy.
